King Richard's Faire (that's right not "fair") in Carver Massachusetts is a vivid recreation of a
16th century English marketplace at festival time. Actors, dancers,
puppeteers, jugglers, minstrels, mimes, magicians, wenches and
musicians perform each weekend for the favor of his Royal Highness King
Richard.
Royalty and beggars, highwaymen and guards, knights and
wenches, swordsmen and soothsayers roam throughout the 80 acre wooded
village while artisans hawk and display a wide array of unique
hand-made wares.
The Royal Chefs at King Richard's Faire prepare delectable edibles
authentic to Renaissance times. Exotic animals, jousting knights on
horseback, challenging games and Renaissance merriment round out a day
at the Faire.

 King Richard's Faire Front Gates
The MassHotSpots staff visited King Richard's Faire over in Carver
MA on it's opening weekend. This was the first time we had ever
vistited and we were quite excited to check out this huge event. When
we arrived at King Richard's Faire we purchased tickets at the front
gate (see the pic above ) and then entered into the village. While we
were waiting in line to get our ticekts, some actors dressed in old
english clothes walked about exciting the crowd.
Once we were
inside the village it was sensory overload. There was so much new stuff
to checkout and so many interesting people to look at! About half the
people at King Richard's Faire go dressed up in "garb". There is a
range of people going for the Pirate look to the English Gentleman look.
We
wandered around for about four hours and saw/did many things. The first
stop we made was the food area. You purchase tickets (50 cents a
ticket) that can be used at the food vendor stations. There was a large
range of food. One of the highlights are the huge Turkey legs that
people knaw on. A highlight of the beverages is the Yard of beer (you
get to keep the glass) and also champagne and wine. There was also some
good deserts at the faire.
 Feeling hungry? Got Turkey?
We then checked out all the stores at King Richard's Faire. There
were many different stores there. Quite a few of them sold medieval
style clothing, including one very sexy store. This is THE place to get
your garb, offering many choices. There also were quite a few weapons
vendors who sold high quality swords and weaponry. One of the vendors
was an actual blacksmith and was pounding out new weapons to sell as
you looked at their wares.
King
Richard's Faire also has some fun (and kind of dangerous) games you can
play. Of interest was the axe throwing, knife throwing and archery
stations. They line people up, give them axes, knives, or bows and
arrows, and let you throw/fire at targets. Cool! There was also some
other interesting games like the one where you try to hit the bell by
slamming a mallet down, and also some game where you slide beer mugs
down a bar top.
King
Richard's Faire also has many shows going on during the day. One that
we saw a little of was the wild animal show. They brought out various
big cats like a white tiger, danced them around the stage, and so on.
The show included scantily clad women marching the big cats around.
They also have competitions - I saw that one of the weekends contains
the Cleavage contest. Exciting!
The final piece of excitment at King Richard's Faire was the jousting
exhibition. It really felt like we were in the old days seeing a live
joust. Four men rode around on horses and performed various stunts
inlcuding an obstacle course and a joust. There was also some good
sword fighting. The crowd really liked this.
 Want to fight?
In sum, The King Richard's Faire
in Carver Massachusetts, was a great time. There was tons to do and it
was something out of the ordinary. For these reasons we designateKing Richard's Faire a MassHotSpot.
